Invitation: SHDHS invites 2nd through 8th grade students to participate in its annual Summer Drama Camp and the performance of “Seussical Kids”. Campers will work on their craft of acting, singing, and dancing throughout the camp day. Campers will also learn the basic tools for acting, aspects of technical theatre, and characterization. These sessions, intermixed with games and lessons, will culminate in a performance at the end of the camp on the stage of the Drees Homes Auditorium. The $250 registration fee includes a commemorative t-shirt and one complimentary ticket to the performance. Campers are expected to pack their own lunch and snacks. Use the form below to enroll in this Summer Drama Camp experience!
Auditions: All registrants will be accepted to the Camp; auditions are merely done to assign roles for the performance. This process will involve reading a small portion of the script and singing 30 seconds of a song. Campers should choose their own song, but it must be school appropriate.
“Seussical Kids” Synopsis: Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical KIDS, a fantastical musical extravaganza. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child, who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton’s challenge is twofold — not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant! Seussical KIDS is great fun for the whole family.
“Seussical Kids” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.mtishows.com
